An estimated 740,000 Los Angeles County residents are impacted by substance use challenges, affecting individuals, families, schools, and workplaces.

Substance use includes the continued use of alcohol, illegal drugs, or the misuse of prescription or over-the-counter drugs in ways that can lead to harmful consequences. These consequences may include:

  • Problems at work, school, home, or in interpersonal relationships

  • Problems with the law

  • Health and safety risks

  • Increased exposure to unsafe situations

  • Reduced stability in daily life and decision-making

An estimated 740,000 residents of Los Angeles County are affected by substance use challenges. In 2020, 50,182 service-related admissions were recorded across the county.
